AI Principles for Learning and Teaching

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is rapidly transforming our world, and at Generation, we see this not as a challenge, but as an opportunity. Just as calculators and internet search revolutionized access to information, AI is reshaping how we work, learn, and connect with each other.

Our core mission is to prepare individuals for life-changing careers, and that means equipping them for a future where AI proficiency is foundational to economic mobility.

These principles outline our commitment to harnessing AI ethically, inclusively, and with a human-centered approach across all our educational programs. We believe learning is fundamentally a human experience, enriched – but never replaced – by technology.

Our vision is a future where AI empowers both instructors and learners, enhancing a teacher’s ability to personalize learning, provide feedback, and unlock new modes of engagement.

AI literacy is fundamental for everyone, and we are dedicated to empowering our global network of teachers, learners, and alumni with the knowledge and tools to navigate this revolution.

These principles are a shared commitment: to use AI to support our learners and educators, uphold human dignity in learning, and continually refine our approach as AI evolves. Together, we’ll champion responsible innovation and empower every individual to thrive in the age of AI.

Here are the guiding principles shaping our approach to AI in learning and teaching:

1. We Equip All Learners for an AI-Driven World of Work

We don’t just prepare people for jobs; we prepare them for a changing world of work shaped by AI.

  • 1.1 AI Skills for Everyone, Everywhere: We integrate practical AI literacy into every program – both general and role-specific – so that every learner, regardless of background or geography, can confidently navigate and grow with the AI-powered world. We help learners see AI as a tool they can learn, shape, and master.
  • 1.2 AI as a Catalyst for Innovation: We embrace AI as an opportunity to rethink and innovate our approach to program design. We actively integrate AI into lesson plans, learning activities, and assessment methods to make the learning experience more effective and memorable. This also involves exploring the new skills, mindsets, and cognitive abilities emerging in this new AI era.
  • 1.3 Career Readiness in an Evolving Market: We actively monitor how the labor market evolves with AI, ensuring our training remains ahead of the curve. Our goal is to empower learners to thrive in emerging roles and adapt to what’s next, providing them with the capabilities needed for the future world of work.

2. We Equip Trainers to Lead AI-Enhanced Training

Educators are not being replaced; they’re being empowered.

  • 2.1 AI in the Instructor’s Toolbox: We equip our instructors to meaningfully use AI in their teaching practice. This means leveraging AI to personalize feedback, design highly engaging experiences, and effectively support diverse learner needs, amplifying their impact in the classroom.
  • 2.2 Human Connection at the Core: While technology amplifies the teacher’s role, it will never replace the invaluable human element. We are committed to preserving the irreplaceable value of human empathy, genuine relationships, and sound judgment throughout the learning journey. Trust and mentorship remain at the heart of learning.
  • 2.3 Global Standards, Local Impact: Through the evolution of our Culture of Learning and Teaching (COLT) framework, we ensure that our AI-enhanced teaching remains grounded in consistent adult learning models (andragogy), rigorous quality standards, and a learner-centered design across our entire global network.

3. We Embed Equity and Responsibility in Everything We Do

AI evolves fast. We evolve with it, guided by our values and grounded in practice.

  • 3.1 Responsible by Default: From protecting privacy and upholding data ethics to respecting intellectual property, we are committed to promoting responsible choices in how AI is used in every classroom and program. Safety and ethical use are our top priorities in every AI decision we make.
  • 3.2 AI That Includes, Not Excludes: We actively work to ensure that the integration of AI does not deepen existing digital divides. Our approach is intentionally inclusive by design, ensuring accessibility and benefit across all learners, regardless of gender, disability, socio-economic status, ethnicity, cultural background, or geographic location. Our programs are built to bridge, not widen, the digital divide.
  • 3.3 Always Evolving, Together: AI is a rapidly evolving field, and so is our response. We commit to regularly reviewing and updating our approach as technologies shift and learner needs change. Our global network actively shares practices, risks, and successes, ensuring our collective response to AI evolves effectively and transparently across all our countries.

We believe that AI is a powerful catalyst for enabling our learners and graduates to achieve lasting economic mobility across diverse industries and geographies. These principles guide our holistic approach: embedding role-specific AI skills, leveraging AI to enhance learner experiences and reduce costs, and equipping our staff with the tools and knowledge to design cutting-edge curricula. We are eager to collaborate with partners who share our vision.
