From Translator to Tech Changemaker

Before joining Generation, Isa worked as a translator in Thailand. Although his job was stable, he was missing his passion and enthusiasm for his career.

“I realized my passion wasn’t in translation, it was in helping people and creating solutions through technology.”

Changing careers isn’t always celebrated, indeed, it can be seen as a failure in some cultures. Isa was brave and decided to take this step despite the societal pressure he was under. He joined Generation Thailand’s Software Developer program, eager to embrace something new.

“People thought switching paths meant I had no direction. But to me, it meant the opportunity to grow.”

Through the bootcamp, Isa learned coding skills like HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and Node.js, and discovered a deep sense of community and personal growth.

“I was taught not only how to build software, but how to handle setbacks, communicate feelings, and keep going.”

New Beginnings

After graduation, Isa quickly moved into the tech world, first as an application support engineer, then as an RPA developer, and now as a software engineer in Australia. The internal transfer at his company, that enabled him to move from Thailand to Australia, was made possible by the skills and confidence Isa gained through Generation.

Through Generation’s Global Ambassador Council and mentorship program, Isa began developing a sign language translator web app to support deaf and hard-of-hearing visitors at a public library in Tasmania, Australia.

“I wanted to help people with disabilities perform simple tasks, like borrowing a book or applying for membership. Now, I’m building a tool to do exactly that.”

Isa also proudly took his mother on her dream vacation to Hawaii, a milestone made possible by financial stability gained with the support of Generation.

Where is Isa now?

While enjoying working and living in Australia, Isa’s goal for the future is clear: use technology to make life better for others.

“Now I have bigger dreams. I want to create solutions that help people with disabilities, using tech as a tool for inclusion and empowerment.”
